ACCORDING TO UNOFFICIAL INFORMATION, ONLY TWELVE CLUBS WILL PERFORM IN THE NEW SEASON OF THE TIPOS EXTRALIGA.
After three years, the Hungarian hockey club DVTK Jegesmedvék Miskolc is saying goodbye to the highest Slovak competition. HC 07 Detva, which will be replaced by HC Prešov, also ends in the extra league. HK Spišská Nová Ves is joining the league thanks to their promotion from the first league.
In the 2021/22 season, twelve clubs will play, starting on September 24, 2021. Each team will play 50 matches in the reggular part. Everyone plays each other four times, twice home and twice away, which is 44 duels. The remaining six will take place during the Christmas period, when the regional round takes place. Just like last year, Slovan will play two more matches against Dukla Trenčín, HK Nitra and HC MIKRON Nové Zámky.
After the regguar part, the teams in the first to sixth place will automatically advance to the quarterfinals of the playoffs. Clubs from seventh to tenth place will play the preliminary round for the remaining two places in the playoffs. For the eleventh team, the competition will end. The last one will play against the winner of the first league to stay in the extra league.
In the opening round, Slovan should meet on the home ice in a derby match with one of his rivals Dukla Trenčín.
