MATT MACKENZIE WILL JOIN HC SLOVAN IN A MONTH. FROM HIS HOME IN CALGARY, HE GAVE AN INTERVIEW TO THE OFFICIAL WEBSITE HCSLOVAN.SK.
The season ended for you in the Dornbirner jersey in March. How did you spend your time during this period?
You found me in Canada, I live with my family in a suburb of Calgary, Alberta. The hockey season is always challenging, we play a lot of matches, we travel, so now I try to devote all my time to my family. In addition, I am preparing for the new year. In my free time I like to play tennis or ride a bike.
When did you start preparing for the new year?
I didn't want to get out of the training routine completely, so I more or less rested actively. I started the preparation at the end of April. It is good that the club also takes care of us, we received a preparation plan from Slovan, and we consult both trainings and the results of various tests in e-mail communication.
What style of hockey do you prefer?
I am a defender who likes to use the whole ice. I try to play hard and responsibly in front of my own goal, but also support my teammates in the attack and contribute to the goals scored.
How would you describe your strengths?
First of all, I am a team player who will do everything for the success of my team. From the hockey qualities, I would bring to the fore creativity, a decent first pass and a shot.
Which of your previous hockey stops do you remember the most?
I think it was a year in the Tölzer Löwen team in DEL 2. I was surprised by the good level of the league, in Germany there was physical and fast hockey. We had a great team; I made some great friends there. In addition, I also had a great season statistically wise because I collected 59 points.
Have you already found out information about your new club, or city?
Yes, I was in contact with a few players before signing the contract. Their positive responses also weighed on Slovan. I got to know the beautiful arena last year when I competed against another Bratislava team in the EBEL league. I also heard about the great background in the cabin, or the care of the players. The city is said to have a beautiful center, I look forward to coming here with my family.
Who will come to Slovakia with you?
I will be accompanied by my wife Danica and two sons. The older Isaiah is 3 years old; the younger Bowen has just celebrated his first birthday. The boys are alive and well. We are looking forward to the organization of Slovan and the year spent in Bratislava.
What are your expectations from the upcoming operation in Slovan?
The 2021/22 season will be a jubilee season for HC SLOVAN, the club is celebrating its 100th anniversary. I'm proud to be a part of the club’s milestone. The team will definitely have a great desire to have a successful season and end it with a victory in the last match. We will do everything to raise the championship cup above our heads!
