Slovan had a shooting lead from the beginning, but Nitra had a more serious chance. In the fifth minute, Nitra played a power play and Slovák sent the away team into the lead. Fominych had another chance, but Parks saved it. Slovan then did not take advantage of a shortened power play by two players. Tvrdoň then could have emphasized the game dominance of the first period, but in the power play he only hit a post.
At the beginning of the second period, Nitra lost its offensive force, as Slovaks and Tvrdoň received misconduct penalties for unsportsmanlike behaviour. Slovan again had a short numerical advantage of 5 to 3, but he could not score a goal in it either. The remaining minutes of the second act also brought more penalties. Slovan finally managed to equalize when O'Donnell tipped Brodzinsky's shot.
At the beginning of the third period, Slovan played another power play, an excellent save was again performed by the goalkeeper of Nitra, who stopped Harris's goal shot. Nine minutes before the end of the match, Drábek pulled the action to the right and Kollár sent his pass into the net. However, the guests only enjoyed the lead for a while, because Rapáč equalized 100 seconds later. The duel was not decided by Šiška, who himself failed in front of Parks, and not even in the final power play of Nitra.
Kollár had the first chance in overtime, but neither he nor Gašpar changed the score. Brodzinski and Štajnoch succeeded in the shootout. Slovan won 3:2 after shootout.
