HC SLOVAN Bratislava will host another East Conference club in Ondrej Nepela Arena this week. This time, it's Lada Togliatti.
The East Conference team arrive to Bratislava from Helsinki to meet HC SLOVAN Bratislava on Wednesday, at 7 PM. They were losing to Jokerit 0-2, but they turned the game around by three goals with Jokerit tying the game 24 minutes before the end of the game. Eventually, the game went into shootouts, which ended up being more successful for the home team. However, Lada confirmed that they have good players on their team this year again.
Slovans tasted Lada's strength in Togliatti this season when they lost to Lada 5-1. Lada punished every small mistake we made in that game.
The team was a bit unlucky in the beginning of the season - several players were on the injury list, mostly veterans who were supposed to lead the team forward. This certainly caused some problems in line ups for the Latvian head coach Artis Abols.
A Czech forward Jiří Novotný had to skip most of the games and therefore scored just 8 points. Nikita Filatov was out for a long time too and his stats say he scored 7 points. An overseas forward Shane Harper scored just 8 points as well. Russian players took over in the performance stats. Denis Zhernov and Georgy Belousov both scored 22 points. Kirill Kapustin follows them with 21 points in the stats.
The upcoming game will be quite interesting for the Genoway brothers. While Colby is Slovan's MVP, his brother Chay is Lada's defenseman with the most points (16). Worth mentioning are two other defensemen, Dmitry Vorobyov and Jefim Gurkin.
Lada have played with three goaltenders this season. Alexander Lazushin has 92.9% save rate after 23 games played, Anton Krasotkin's save rate is 90.5% after 17 games and Yevgeni Ivannikov has guarded Lada's goal in 11 games so far.
