Slovan players had a clear goal before the match. Stop the series of four losses and do not lose contact with the front of the table. They finally succeeded, the great first third helped them to do so. The home team paid for their indiscipline, as up to four of their players sat on the bench. Uram sent Slovan to the lead when he took advantage of Detva's mistake to defend himself. The second goal was added by the defender Maier and the guests were then able to punish Lalík thanks to Brodzinski’s expulsion. This goal had a special flavour for Slovan because they took advantage of the numerous advantages after the previous 22 unsuccessful attempts. At the end of the first twenty minutes, they had another power play, Jendek set the score of the first third in it.

At the beginning of the second period, the home team played a power play, because the end of the first act was enriched by a fight in front of Gudlevskis' goal, the referees had to split the penalties. Thanks to the numerous advantages, the “Detvans” were more active, but Gudlevskis supported Slovan with a few good saves. The Latvian goalkeeper excelled in several attempts of Valenta in the 27th minute. Soon, however, he was no longer enough for Downing's save, when Kundrik was sitting on the penalty bench. Detva was better in the second third and was able to use their dominance once again thanks to Sýkora.

Slovan in the third act had something to do to avoid losing their lead. Detva felt a chance to turn around, Slovan's players gave them hope with their indiscipline. The home side put themselves ahead 2 - 0 after 45 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from Charbonneau, who scored with a stunning goal. Slovan didn't let the triumph get away after that, although three and a half minutes before the end had a huge chance to equalize.
