The favourite from Bratislava entered Liptov with several returnees in the line-up, after an injury, the goalkeeper Makarov, the defender Bačik and the forwards Harris and Zigo appeared in the team. This fact pushed Slovan even further behind the obligatory triumph, and Slovan also started better. They had the first power play at their disposal, O'Donnell had a great chance in it. McShane saved it and created a breakaway that saw Liptovský Mikuláš take a lead. But after 34 seconds Uram equalized with his first league goal. This lasted only 120 seconds as Liptovský Mikuláš scored another goal, making the score 2:1 at the end of the first period.

A big complication for us occurred at the beginning of the second period, when our goalkeeper Makarov was injured and replaced by 18-year-old Beke. Both teams then had their chances, but the goal fell in our net after we were short-handed when Lištiak prevailed. The match was then enriched by Robertson's fight with Maier, resulting in a power play for Slovan, but we did not benefit from it. Slovan managed to reduce later when O'Donnell tipped the shot of Sersen.

From the beginning of the third period, Slovan increased the pace, tried to equalize, but in the 45th minute they left Valtol free in front of our goal, which he increased to 4: 2 for the home team. The surprise was finally confirmed by a goal from Surový, and although Štajnoch and Brodzinski had the last word, Liptovský Mikuláš defeated Slovan after 12 years. The last time they did so was on February 13, 2009, when they also won 5: 4 on the home ice.
