Kukumberg joins the 100 Club

Saturday’s game against the Czech Republic was the 100th time that Slovak forward Roman Kukumberg had laced up for the Slovak national team, with the HC SLOVAN Bratislava player becoming the 23rd player to reach that milestone.

Slovakia’s 3:0 victory over the Czech Republic at the Slovnaft Arena saw Kukumberg reach the 100 appearance mark, with him having scored 21 goals in the jersey with the dual cross. The national record holder is defenceman Martin Štrbák, who has played 162 games for his country. The top scorer in the history of the Slovak national team is Miroslav Šatan, who has found the back of the net 80 times in 159 games.

Kukumberg made his debut for Slovakia in 4:3 defeat to the Czech Republic in Plzen on November 5th 2002. His first goal for Slovakia came six weeks later in Moscow, as he scored the lone goal in Slovakia’s 1:3 loss to Russia in the Baltika Cup on December 21st 2002.
