The long term successful hockey manager takes on his position from 1 July, 2019.
HC SLOVAN Bratislava will fill out the post of general manager with an experienced Slovak hockey manager Juraj Bakoš.
Fifty-two-year-old native of Kezmarok has had extraordinarily successful years in the same position in the club of HC Kosice where he held the post of General Manager from 2004 to 2017. Over the course of ten years with the "Steelers", he was nine times in the finals of the Extra League, earning a total of five championship titles, including a golden championship hattrick in 2009-2011.
Juraj Bakoš was also an important representative of the Executive Committee of the Slovak Ice Hockey Federation (2011–2015), and he also held the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of Pro-Hokej (2007-2015), the governing body of the Slovak highest hockey tier.
"I am coming to Slovan in a difficult situation but with the clear aim of raising the club to where it always belonged. Officially, I will sit on the General Manager's chair from the first day of July but I have already started working in several areas. I cooperate closely with head coach Roman Stantien, working together to form a competitive team for the next season. We did approach a number of boys we would like having in the team. We want its core to be made up of Slovak players and those who have already played in Slovan and have a warm relationship with it, ”said Juraj Bakoš.
Juraj Bakoš has devoted his life to hockey practically since his childhood. As a native of Kežmarok, he started his professional hockey career in Eastern Slovakia as a 17-year-old. In the VSŽ Košice team he had played for nine seasons in the federal Czech-Slovak hockey league. In 1986 and 1988 he won two federal championship titles. In 1983 he was drafted by the NHL franchise Philadelphia Flyers. In 10 games, he also wore a Czechoslovak national team's jersey.
After leaving the management of HC Košice in autumn 2017, Juraj Bakoš decided to settle permanently in Western Slovakia. He lives near Bratislava and holds a high managerial position in a trade company.
“One chapter of my hockey career was concluded in Košice two years ago. Nevertheless, I continued to follow the events in our league, the national team, and of course Slovan in KHL. I want to follow up on previous successes in Bratislava with Slovan. I believe that the hard work I am accustomed to will gradually pay off and fans of Slovan will again be happy with hockey and will be proud of their club,” Juraj Bakoš told hcslovan.sk.
